On 25 September 2025 the Country Women’s Association in Tasmania (Inc.) celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the CWA Launceston Shop.
The shop has been a treasured part of the community since it first opened its doors in 1955. It has been a place where locals and visitors alike could find quality handmade goods, preserves, baked treats and gifts. But it has also been much more than a shop. It has been a meeting place, a hub of community connection and a space where generations of Tasmanians have come together to share skills, stories, form friendships, provide support and raise funds for community projects.
It’s about community spirit, and the pride we take in offering something special that connects generations. Many customers return time and again, not just for the goods, but for the sense of belonging that the shop has fostered for 70 years.
State President, Mrs Adriana Taylor, said the milestone is an opportunity to both look back with pride and forward with optimism. “For 70 years, this shop has stood as a symbol of the CWA’s values: service, resilience and community. It reflects the extraordinary contribution of our members, past and present, who have given their time and talents to make it what it is today.”
The 70th Anniversary celebration brought together members, past volunteers, customers and friends to share memories, reconnect and honour the women whose vision created the shop in 1955.
