CWA Tasmanian Committees

Our dedicated committees and liaison officers provide leadership and coordination of various activities and initiatives to meet the many and varied interests of our members, who can nominate to serve on committees according to their own particular interests.

A brief overview of our committees are provided here, but please contact the State Office for further details.

Geographic Groups:

The CWA in TAS branches are divided into three geographic groups (South, North and North-West) *why?* Each group meets for an annual forum to socialise, share news and learnings from the past year, and participate in educational and skill-sharing activities. Other group-hosted events are also held throughout the year.

Liaison Officers: Community Support Officers (CSOs)

Two CSOs (one each for the Northern and Southern regions) liaise with community organisations supported by CWA in Tas and fulfil the challenging task of matching demand for donations with items supplied by our branches and others from outside the Association. Our CSO’s work with hospitals, nursing homes, women’s refuges, community centres, and organisations supporting new and young mothers, patients and people experiencing homelessness.

International Officer:

Ad Hoc Committees Formed As Needed, See Examples:

Events Management Committee

This committee is convened on an ad hoc basis to facilitate the association’s hosting of and/or participation in various events. A new committee is formed for each event and is comprised of members located in geographic proximity to the event and/or those with a particular interest in its theme or subject matter. For example, a committee for AGFEST would typically include members based in the Northern region, close to the event location in Carrick, while a committee for the annual CWA in TAS Handicrafts and Home Industries Summer Camp would be made up of members with a particular interest in those activities.

Social Information Fact Finding Team (SIFFT)

This committee is convened on an ad hoc basis to facilitate research into topics of interest to CWA in TAS. The purpose of this research may be to facilitate advocacy and Government lobbying activities, for community education or simply for the interest of members. Members can nominate to participate in a particular project according to their personal interests, connections and skills.
